House Staff Manual
General Policy of the University

It shall be University policy, to the extent it establishes and maintains graduate medical education and graduate clinical training programs (the responsibility for which shall rest with the faculty of the UCLA Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and the medical staff at UCLA Medical Center) and to the extent funding permits, to:
  1. Continue the accredited status of the programs throughout the education or training period of the house officers.
  2. Provide adequate, safe, and sanitary facilities in connection with both educational and clinical programs, including, but not limited to, on-call sleepquarters, study and research facilities, support facilities such as clerical assistance, meeting space, recreational lounge, and dictation equipment for operatives and discharge summaries, beepers and administrative liaison personnel.
  3. Limit the amount of activity assigned to house officers not directly related to their educational training.
  4. Provide reasonable access to the Director of UCLA Medical Center or the Director's designee for the purpose of discussing and resolving issues of mutual interest.
  5. Provide access to the Sr. Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and access and membership on the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Resident Action Committee.
