Medical Center Services (Miscellaneous): A-K

AUTOMATED TELLER MACHINES — ATM’s are located in the Hospital cafeteria, outside on the southeast side of the Medical Center near the entrance to the Marian Davies Center, and on the exterior wall of the Health Sciences Students’ Store. Another ATM is located outside the 300 UCLA Medical Plaza Building, on the east wall of the main entrance.

COMPUTER LAB (Technology and Learning Center, formerly the Instructional Microcomputing Facility) — Located on the second floor of the Biomedical Library, the Technology & Learning Center at UCLA houses over 100 workstations designed to meet the computing needs of graduate students enrolled in the schools of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health. Services include high-end PCs, scanning, file storage and printing. Computers are available for use by house staff and medical students, who are eligible for full service accounts. Educational programs include clinical patient simulations, self-assessment review programs, and multimedia programs. Access to selected bibliographic and information retrieval databases is provided through the Internet. Trained lab assistants are available until 6 p.m. any day the TLC is open (5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday) to provide individualized help. Generally open Monday–Thursday from 7:30 a.m.–11:00 p.m.; until 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and from 11:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. on Sunday. Call 310/825-3034 for more information.

CHECK CASHING — Available Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The check limit is $25.00 with a $.50 charge per check. A current hospital photo I.D. is required. Located on the first floor of the Medical Center near the East Wing elevators. Checks may be written for up to $15.00 over the amount of purchase at the Health Sciences Students’ Store (see below).

ESCORT SERVICE — If you walk from the Medical Center to the parking structures late at night, the Department of Community Safety provides a free escort service. This service is available every day from dusk until 1:00 a.m. and extends to all parts of campus. Escorts are uniformed UCLA students who are employed by the Campus Police. Call 310-825-1491 approximately 20 minutes before you need an escort.

HEALTH SCIENCES STORE — CHS Patio, Medical Center, Open Monday through Thursday: 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sunday: Noon to 5:00 p.m. A branch of the UCLA Store specializing in medical and dental texts and supplies. They also have lab coats and scrubs, office supplies, food, gifts and various sundries. For more information visit www.uclaestore.com/uclahss.

INTERPRETER/TRANSLATION SERVICE — Located in Room 17-253 CHS, this service ensures equal access to UCLA Medical Center for all Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients. Bilingual interpreters provide language assistance in all areas of the Medical Center, 200 Medical Plaza and NPI by person or by phone. Call 310-825-7636 Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. to request an Interpreter. At all other times, call the page operator at 825-6301 to be connected to a professional telephone interpreter. Phone interpreters are provided by an outside vendor. For questions, contact Hala Fam at 825-7271.

Interpreter services for deaf and hearing impaired persons are also available. Call 206-8053 and ask for Clara Huerta between 9:30– 6:00 p.m. Monday–Friday to schedule an American Sign Language Interpreter in advance. At other times, page Clara at 91784.
