The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) assesses the readiness of IMGs to enter US residency or fellowship programs that are accredited by the ACGME. The ECFMG certification is one of the eligibility requirements to take Step 3 of the USMLE, and is required to obtain a license to practice medicine in the U.S. To be certified by ECFMG, applicants must meet medical education credential requirements and examination requirements, including Step 1 and Step 2 of the USMLE.
