Committee Membership

  • The Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) is the institutional oversight committee which reviews all accredited training programs at UCLA. The GMEC establishes and implements policies and procedures related to the academic training programs and the work environment for the residents. Committee members perform internal reviews of all residency programs as mandated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. All training programs must be approved by the GMEC. The Committee also works closely with individual programs to assist them with their RRC site visits. The GMEC meets monthly on Mondays from noon-1:30 p.m.. Voting membership on the GMEC includes residency program directors, faculty, and administration, plus house staff nominated by their peers. Meeting dates and agendas are available on the GME website.

  • The Resident Action Committee (RAC) is a resident organization created to communicate and exchange information on all aspects of residency education and to provide an effective liaison between the residents and the GMEC. It is a subcommittee of the GMEC and is open to house staff from all programs. The frequency of meetings is set by the RAC, but is not less than quarterly. Meetings are usually held on Wednesdays at noon. Meeting dates and agendas are available on the GME website.

  • House staff are also eligible to participate on the Medical Staff Executive Committee and various Subcommittees. Key committees to which house staff may be appointed include Performance Improvement, Ethics, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Trauma, Critical Care, Blood and Blood Derivatites, Operating Room and Risk Management. Information on these committees may be found on line at http://www.mednet.ucla.edu/. Click on QMS/Center for Patient Safety and Quality and then select Medical Staff By-Laws.
