Recreational Facilities

A wide variety of recreation programs, services and facilities are administered by the Department of Cultural and Recreational Affairs, which is located in the John Wooden Recreational and Sports Center. UCLA employees may participate in CRA’s programs and services by purchasing a Recreation Card. The annual fee for a Bruin Classic membership is $175.00. An extra $140.00 is charged for spouses/significant others and $90.00 for children under 18. There are also customized and family membership options available. Following is a short description of the many recreational opportunities available. More detailed information may be found in the department’s quarterly Recreation Release, or by calling the CRA office weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at 310-825-3701. Challenge Course — Sunset Canyon Recreation Center,

Located on the upper lawn of the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center, the Challenge Course provides a venue where groups and individuals learn alternative ways to address personal, interpersonal and organizational issues. The Challenge Course presents challenges that require groups and individuals to reach beyond their comfort zone to accomplish the goal. Towards this end, they use adventurebased learning activities as well as a variety of games, initiatives, elements and obstacles in a safe environment. People of any age or physical condition are encouraged to participate.

Club Sports
Club sports provide opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumni and recreation members with similar interests to participate in various sport and recreational activities. There are over 35 club teams, with a list ranging from archery and badminton, cycling and fencing, to lacrosse and rugby, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling and many more.

Drake Track Stadium
Hours: Monday–Sunday, Dawn–Dusk
Drake Track Stadium is a nine-lane 400-meter track with javelin, triple jump, long jump, and an infield events area. A handicap accessible unisex restroom is located on the track level.

Fit Center South
Located in the Rehabilitation West Building, 1000 Veteran, just north of Wilshire Blvd.

Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–8:30 p.m., Saturday–Sunday, 7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

The Fit Center South provides patients and members of the UCLA Community access to a fitness facility serving the South Campus. Fit Center South offers treadmills, upright & recumbent bicycles, stairmasters, ellipticals, bench press, a warm water exercise pool and much more. Separate membership fee is required.

Instructional Classes
A broad range of non-credit instructional classes are available in the arts, dance, fitness, sports, martial arts, swimming, tennis, yoga, and a variety of group fitness programs. Most classes are designed for beginning and intermediate skill levels. Personal fitness trainers are available at both the Wooden Center and Fit Center South.

John Wooden Recreation and Sports Center (JWC)

10:00 a.m.–5:45 p.m.; Sunday, 9:00 a.m.–9:45 p.m.

The John Wooden Center offers 3 gyms for basketball, volleyball badminton, and gymnastics; indoor weight training, stretching mats, stationary bicycles, stairclimbers, ellipticals, treadmills, and rowing machines, 4 studios for fitness, dance, fencing, and martial arts, Certified Personal Fitness Trainers, handball, racquetball, and squash courts, a Game Lounge with a large screen TV, men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers and saunas, and lockers available for rental.
