Life in LA - Welcome to UCLA
Bruin OnLine (BOL)

www.bol.ucla.edu
Bruin OnLine (BOL) is UCLA’s campus network information service (your ISP). With a BOL account and home computer with a modem or broadband internet access, you can access the UCLA Library Catalog, PubMed@UCLA, the CDL-licensed databases, and over 3500 electronic journals at no charge. Also, BOL provides ISP 24x7 for those only using phone modem capabilities. BOL also provides free internet software, virus protection, and FTP software. Access to some of UCLA’s Web content and FTP services are restricted solely to UCLA IP addresses because of licensing and/or copyright agreements. You must access some services from a computer with a UCLA IP address. Users who are utilizing other Internet Service Providers (ISP) to access restricted content remotely do not have a UCLA IP address and are therefore denied access, unless a proxy server is used. The BOL proxy server will only work with Internet Explorer 5.5 with Service Pack 1 or higher, Netscape Communicator 6.2.x, or higher on Windows computers, or Mozilla. On the Macintosh, the only browsers that work with the proxy server are Netscape Communicator 6.2x or higher, Safari and Mozilla Firefox. Instructions for setting a proxy server can be found at www.bol.ucla.edu/services/proxy. In order to use Bruin OnLine services, you need a BOL account which can be set up from any computer having internet access. Go to www.bol.ucla.edu/services/ accounts. Click on the “Create Accounts” button. You will need to supply your date of birth and the UCLA ID number found on the bottom of your UCLA ID badge. Set your own BOL ID and your BOL email address will become: UserID@ucla.edu.
