The UCLA Medical Center provides you and your family with medical, dental and vision
insurance plans at no cost to you. In addition life and long-term disability insurance
is provided to UCLA House Staff residents at no cost.
If you wish to add a spouse or newborn to your insurance at any time during your training at UCLA, please note your newborn
dependent child is automatically covered on the date of birth. However, to continue coverage you must add the newborn within 31
days from the date of birth. You have 31 days from the date of your marriage to complete the enrollment form to add your spouse
to your insurance.

You are eligible for House Staff insurance benefits if you are a full-time intern,
resident, or fellow with direct patient care responsibilities and if you have been
awarded a Doctor of Medicine (or equivalent degree) or Doctor of Dentistry (or

benefits for the duration of the program, even if performing duties that are not
directly related to patient care. Adjunct instructors (junior faculty) who function
as House Staff but are paid by both House Staff and faculty funds are also eligible
for benefits.
You can also enroll your eligible family members for coverage under the medical,
dental and vision plans. Your eligible family members include:
Your lawful spouse or domestic partner
Your unmarried children under age 19
Your unmarried children from age 19 to 23 if they depend on you for at least half
of their support (as defined under Internal Revenue Service regulations) and are
enrolled full-time in an accredited school
Your unmarried children who are, and continue to be, incapable of self-sustaining
employment by reason of mental or physical handicap and who are chiefly dependent on
you for economic support and maintenance. Proof of your child's incapacity and
