By 2030, it is projected that there will be 70 million people over 65 years of age in the United States. Geriatrics and gerontology education must be improved in the undergraduate medical school curriculum to support the drastic increase of this population. The physicians who will provide care for these elderly persons are beginning to be trained now. Accordingly, it is most appropriate that the beginning foundation for this care be taught at the medical student level.
