Course
Description
This
course will present current controversial issues in the
diagnosis, management and treatment of renal osteodystrophy.
The target audience is nephrologists, dietitians, nurse
practitioners and physician assistants.
Learning
Objectives
At the conclusion of this
program participants should be able to:

Discuss
the current spectrum of renal bone diseases in patients
with renal failure and its impact on K/DOQI recommendations.
-
Review the process of
vascular calcification in renal failure.
-
Review the impact of new
phosphate binders and alternative dialysis techniques
in the control of hyperphosphatemia.
-
Review the value of new
vitamin D analogs and calcimimetic agents in the control
of secondary hyperparathyroidism.
-
Recognize the impact of
therapy with different vitamin D metabolites on long term
survival.
