Requirement
UCLA medical school requires students to purchase handheld computers,
(popularly called PDA's, or personal digital assistants) at the beginning of their
third year rotations. As a part of this
requirement, students have been asked to use the PDA in specific ways. One
of these is to document the patients seen during their clerkships on their
PDA's, on a PDA Log created for the purpose. Patient information entered
by students is eventually collected via the web, and a report on the type
of patient problems students are seeing is sent to students, clerkship
chairs, site directors.
