The majority of PDA programs are downloaded as "zip" files. You can unzip these files to any directory though it is recommended that you place them in the "Add-on" folder of the "Palm" directory on your computer. You then launch the Install Tool from your Start Menu (Start/Programs/Palm Desktop). Once you are in the Install Tool, press the add button and select the install file that you placed in the "Add-on" directory.
Some software, such as M-Business, will run a setup/installation program. This will walk you through the process of installing the software on your PDA.
Some software will require that you have a zip/archive utility. You can use either WinZip (http://www.winzip.com/), which is shareware that costs $29, or you can use PowerArchiver (http://www.powerarchiver.com/), which is a shareware that costs $19.95 for one license with lifetime upgrades.
Updating software can be done in two ways, depending on the software. The first way is an automatic update that occurs when you sync your PDA. The other method requires that you delete the software from your PDA and then reinstall from a new download of the program. Generally programs will include a "Read Me" file in the zip. This file should contain instructions on both update and installation.
