MISSION & HISTORY
Mission: Strive towards excellence in medical education via meaningful integration of instructional technology across the curriculum.
The Instructional Design and Technology Unit was established in 1996 by the Dean's Office in order to facilitate the integration of computing technologies in medical education. The impetus for this significant decision arose from the implementation for a computer requirement instituted during the same year. Since 1996, all medical students have been required to purchase desktop or laptop computers with financial aid offered via the Student Affairs Office. IDTU began with the development of individualized interactive applications judiciously embedded in the curriculum, and has expanded its services to faculty development, teaching, evaluation, research, grants and related scholarly pursuits. However, the predominant commitment of IDTU remains rooted in its service oriented goals, to maintain and enhance the academic excellence of the David Geffen School of Medicine via innovative integration of multifaceted computing technologies.
